No Dolby, gulal or nirmalya dumping in river in PCMC

Pimpri: The immersion procession, which was predominantly eco-friendly on the last day of the Ganesh festival lasted for almost 11 hours in Chinchwad and 11.50 hours in Pimpri on Tuesday.  Responding to the appeal from the police, most Ganesh mandals did not use Dolby sound system during the procession.

Over a hundred Ganesh mandals took part in the event. Mandals  chose environment-friendly ways by using flower petals instead of gulal.  The mandals with big idols preferred to go to Moraya Ghat where the depth of the water in Pavana river was more compared to Thergaon bridge in Chinchwadgaon. The PCMC had deployed 10 lifeguards at each ghats, while four lifeguards were deployed at small ghats.

Five security guards and some health workers were deployed for collection of the nirmalya. The first Ganesh mandal to reach Chapekar Chowk was Shivtej Sports Club at around 2 pm, Moraya Mitramandal (Bhoir Ali), Navyug Bhoirraj Mandal (Bhoir Ali), Morya Institute (Chinchwad) and Shri Ganesh Mitra Mandal.

People started crowding at Chapekar Chowk in large numbers only after 9 pm, the square was packed with a huge crowd.
Mayor Nitin Kalje, MLA Laxman Jagtap, Aayukt Shravan Hardikar, Leader of House Eknath Pawar, Corporator Bhausaheb Bhoir, Aparna Doke, Ashvini Chinchwade, Anuradha Gorkhe, Rajendra Gawade, Namdeo Dhake and others were present.

Some of the unique mandals were the Bal Tarun Mitra Mandal that performed gymnastics. The chariot was decorated with flowers presented by Sant Dnyashwar Mitra Mandal and was also the attraction of the procession.

The Ganesh idol of Shree Datta Mandal headed towards the immersion ghat with flowers poured on the route. 42 Ganesh idols were immersed at Thergaon Ghat.
