No baggage stamping at Pune airport

Pune: The dispensation of hand baggage tags at Pune airport has been started from Friday. The decision was taken by senior officials of Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Headquarter in New Delhi and Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) on Thursday evening.

According to the CISF official, they received a message from headquarter on Thursday night to stop the stamping process.

“It has taken only one week after the review of all feedback sent by Pune airport authority, passengers and CISF to the headquarter at New Delhi. The passengers had given a good response to this facility. Some were not happy as this is a matter of security,” said the official.

The week-long trial run for the same had been organised at Pune airport from October 24. Until now, a total of 17 airports in the country, manned by CISF, have stopped the stamping process after trial runs. These include big airports at Delhi, Mumbai, Kochi, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru and Hyderabad. Smaller airports like the ones in Patna, Jaipur, Lucknow and Guwahati have also done away with stamping. CISF currently mans a total of 59 airports in the country.

By having the stamped tags on the hand baggage, the security personnel used to be assured that no weapon or ammunition as material enters the aircraft. It also pinpoints the accountability of the CISF personnel who clear the baggage.
