Nine Pune cops to get police medals

PUNE: As many as 855 police personnel will be awarded gallantry and police medals on Republic Day this year. Amongst these, a total of nine policemen from Pune police will be awarded Police Medal for Meritorious Service. 

The President’s Police Medal for Gallantry (PPMG) will be awarded to three personnel, while 146 personnel will be awarded the Police Medals for Gallantry (PMG). Seventy-four personnel will be awarded the President’s Police Medals for Distinguished Service while 632 personnel will be awarded the Police Medal for Meritorious Service.

The Pune cops receiving Police Medal for Meritorious Service include Deputy Superintendent of Rural police Ganpatrao Madgulkar; Police Inspector Arvind Gokule of PTC Khandala; Police Inspector Gajanan Pawar and Assistant Sub-Inspector Ashok Bhosale of Pune Crime Branch; Assistant Sub-Inspector Laxman Thorat of Special Branch; Assistant Sub-Inspector Giridhar Desai of SRPF Group 2; Assistant Sub-Inspector Dattatraya Choudhary of Bhigwan police station, Assistant Sub-Inspector Sunil Kulkarni of Swargate police station; Police Sub-Inspector Basavraj Garag of Railways.

Two police head constables from Yerawada prison including Ramchandra Patil and Yashwant Pawar along with Subedar Vijay Parab of Byculla jail and Subedar Pramod Gaikwad of Aurangabad jail won the President’’s Correctional Service Medal for Meritorious Service.

The PMG is the second highest police bravery medal followed by the President’’s Police Medal for Gallantry (PPMG). All three President’’s Police Medals for Gallantry have been awarded to CRPF personnel.

Among the 146 personnel named for Police Medals for Gallantry, 41 are from CRPF, 26 from Odisha Police, 25 from J&K Police, 14 from Chhattisgarh Police, 13 from Meghalaya, 10 from Uttar Pradesh, eight from BSF, four from Delhi, three from Jharkhand and one each from Assam Rifles and ITBP. Maharashtra has won four President’’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service and 40 Police Medal for Meritorious Service. The President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service was awarded to Additional DGP, ACB, Bipin Kumar Singh; Assistant Commandant SRPF Group 11 Bhaskar Mahadik; ACP Dinesh Joshi of Kherwadi Mumbai and ASI Vishnu Nagale of local crime branch Ratnagiri.
