NGOs join hands to clean up Karve Nagar, Vetal Tekdi

Pune: More than 15 bags of trash including plastic, house waste and around 200 bottles were picked up near Gharkul Lawns in Karve Nagar and Vetal Tekdi in Kothrud by members of Swachh Pune-Swachh Bharat along with other organisations on Sunday.

More than 30 volunteers took part in the drive. Organisations like Lets RISE, Infinista Concepts and PTC Software India Pvt Ltd also participated in it.

Puneet Sharma, Founder of Swachh Pune-Swachh Bharat said, “There is a walkway at Karve Nagar, which had become a dumping yard. We cleaned it with 30 volunteers including the social and a creative organisation from the city along with some individuals who took the initiative to help us in the cause.”

Zameer Havaldar, Founder of  Infinista Concepts, a creative organisation of Kothrud said, “We found more than ten bags of trash and liquor bottles on the roadside near Gharkul Lawns. The workers of Pune Municipal Corporation’s Garbage Department came and collected the waste after we informed them about the garbage.”

Saurav Chaterjee, the Founder of Lets RISE Foundation said, “On Sunday, 25 pits were dug up for the plantation drive of August 13 on Vetal Tekdi near Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI), where we found trash of 20 kg of liquor bottles and 95 kg of solid waste.”

Vedarth Despande, member of Nelda Foundation, a social organisation said, “Parvati Hill in the city is similarly scarred with trash, which they will be cleaning on July 30.”
