NGO to distribute books on Dr Ambedkar’s birth anniversary

Pune: The Babasaheb Ambedkar Sangharsh Samiti, a city-based social organisation, will distribute 10,000 books free of cost to people on the occasion of Bhimrao Ambedkar’s birth anniversary.  The Samiti announced the decision during a press conference organised in the city on Tuesday.

On April 14, the 127th birth anniversary of social reformer, thinker and jurist Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar, many political as well as social organisations will celebrate the anniversary through cultural programmes, as well as other social events. Shashikant Kamble of the Sangharsh Samiti, while speaking to the media, said that the Samiti wanted to revive the true meaning of celebrating Ambedkar’s anniversary.

He said, “Babasaheb had given the message of educate, organise and agitate, but the youths have been made to dance on lewd music before loudspeakers in the name of celebrating the anniversary.” 

The Samiti has created Chatrapathi-Phule-Shahu-Ambedkar Vichar Rath, which will go to various pockets in the city, which has a considerable Dalit population and distribute the books to people. The books will be distributed at the hands of eminent persons in the city like Mayor Mukta Tilak, Deputy Mayor Siddharth Dhende, MP Vandana Chavan, former MLA Mohan Joshi, Vinayak Nimman, ex-Deputy Mayor Deepak Mankar, activist Subhash Wari, etc.  

“The Rath will go to areas like Parvati, Kasewadi, Rajewadi, Dhole Patil Road, Vishrantwadi, Bopodi, Ramnagar, Warje, etc. Kamble said that the books will take the thoughts and life story of great personalities to the youths,” he said.
