New survey throws light on students’ academic preferences and woes

PUNE: More than 50 per cent of Indian students feel the need to improve their academic performance by 2020, reveals a year-end survey by Brainly.  It also showed that 37.2 per cent of them experienced difficulties in understanding certain concepts. 

The survey was conducted with the participation of 1,700 students. It offers key insights into their current academic performance and future expectations. It also drew insights from the crucial period of self-introspection and new beginnings.  

Around 28.5 per cent of the students felt the need for their parents and mentors to pay more attention to their studies, while 34.2 per cent hoped they would help relieve some of the stress that the students are otherwise burdened with. At the same time, a significant share of 43.6 per cent of the students felt that they fared really well.

While over 28.4 per cent of them responded that they performed fairly well. At over 46.3 per cent, almost half of these student participants credited their parents and mentors for continually motivating them to do their best. 27.2 per cent stated their parents helped clear doubts and 16.7 per cent got help with homework and assignments.

When asked about the contribution of peer to peer learning platforms to their academic performance, over 35 per cent of the students noted that the platforms enabled them to solve their assignments on time.

Also, 32.5 per cent felt it helped them gain a better understanding of the concepts while 22.2 per cent were glad that the platform lets them connect with peers to solve their doubts.

WHAT THE STUDENTS SAY...
- 50.2% of the participants hope to improve their academic performance in 2020. 
- 29.9% of them felt they did not get enough time to study
- 37.2% of them experienced difficulties in understanding certain concepts
- 18.2% struggled with finishing their homework and assignments on time.
