PUNE: The much awaited demand for air connectivity from Pune to Prayagraj will be fulfiled soon as the Airport Authority of India (AAI) has decided to start this service under Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS).
Director of Pune International Airport Ajay Kumar said, “Under the RCS, a new Indigo flight to Prayagraj from Lohegaon airport in Pune is likely to commence soon. While the date has not been confirmed yet, AAI, Pune, has been informed that Indigo flight operations to Prayagraj will commence soon.”
There are speculations that operations of such a flight will begin prior to Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj, which will be a boost for people from this region to witness and experience the pilgrimage.
Dhairyashil Vandekar, aviation expert and analyst, said, “It is understood that the route between Pune and Prayagraj, (Allahabad), has already been allotted to Indigo. However, they have not yet started the flight. The RCS flight between Pune and Prayagraj will indeed be a boon for hundreds of devotees and pilgrims in western Maharashtra, who travel to this important religious centre every year either with family or in groups.”
He added that the flight service will also facilitate the residents from Prayagraj studying or employed in Pune. “One of the agricultural hubs of our country, Prayagraj also thrives on tourism and other industries,” Vandekar said.
BENEFICIAL FOR KUMBH MELA VISITORS
Aviation expert and analyst Dhairyashil Vandekar said, “In view of the auspicious Kumbh Mela, starting from January 15, 2019, an air link between these two important cities will greatly facilitate thousands of devotees from Western Maharashtra, who will visit the ‘Sangam Nagari’ to take a holy dip in the ‘Triveni Sangam’.”
