New political equations emerging in PCMC

Pimpri: Following internal split emerging in Bharatiya Janata Party leadership over the corruption charges of Rs 425 crore in road work of Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), new internal power equations are shaping up in BJP. Recently, BJP Rajya Sabha MP Amar Sable joined opposition chorus in holding Standing Committee responsible for the alleged corruption. However, BJP affiliated Bhosari MLA Mahesh Landge rushed to the rescue of Standing Committee Chairperson Seema Savale and gave her a clean cheat.

Savale who was a two time Shiv Sena Corporator, joined BJP, just before 2017 civic polls. Savale and BJP city unit general secretary Sarang Kamtekar are known to be staunch supporters of BJP city unit chief and MLA Laxman Jagtap. The sources say that there is a continuous tussle of power between Landge and Jagtap faction in Pimpri Chinchwad.

Earlier, Jagtap and Landge both were with NCP. Savale, being a Jagtap supporter, managed to secure a key position of standing committee chairperson. While Landge supporter Nitin Kalje was chosen for the post of Mayor. On December 13, the Standing Committee approved road development projects of worth Rs 425 crore and took a decision in favour of merging nine villages. Interestingly, a majority of proposed road work will be carried out in Landge’s Bhosari Assembly constituency.

Meanwhile, the members of opposition Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and Shiv Sena have alleged that there is a corruption of Rs 90 crore while awarding tenders for road work. They have even approached Chief Minister Devendra Fadanvis demanding conduct of an impartial inquiry into this matter. Surprisingly, BJP Rajya Sabha MP has also written to Fadnavis on this issue.

However, Mahesh Landge chose to stand firmly in support of Standing Committee saying, “Those who are responsible for depriving merged villages of basic infrastructure for last 20 years are unnecessarily questioning the necessity of projects, Those who could not elect a single candidate from Bhosari Assembly constituency from their party are now stalling the development in this area.” He said without naming Shiv Sena MP from Shirur Constituency Adhalrao Patil.

Landge also said that Savale and Kamtekar exposed several corruption cases during NCP rule. Therefore, NCP is trying to level baseless allegations against them. Since the controversy, Laxman Jagtap however, has not spoken anything about this issue. Therefore, it is believed that a new political equation is forming.
