Need to develop State tourism, says minister

Pune: State Tourism Minister Jaykumar Rawal has asked government officials to act as ‘Tourism Goodwill Ambassadors’ of their area to promote tourism in Maharashtra.

A meeting to find ways to promote ‘sustainable tourism’ was held at Karla in Lonavla on Wednesday which was attended by Rawal, additional collectors of different districts, Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) Managing Director Abhimanyu Kale, Tourism Director Dilip Gavde, Pune Divisional Commissioner Deepak Mhaisekar and others.

Speaking at the event, Rawal said the State is enriched with natural beauty. “If we explore these spots and help develop tourism, it will help in generating employment on a larger scale. If these spots are developed, a large number of tourists will be attracted. Hence, there is a need for joint efforts from different government departments to develop tourism in the State. The Revenue Department will play a major role for the same,” he said.

The tourism minister directed the respective departments to organise tourism festivals, develop tourist maps and find ways to develop tourism in their areas.

MTDC Regional Manager Deepak Harane said the meeting was beneficial and will help in developing tourist spots in the district.
