NDRF rescues 7 persons in Maval

PUNE: Seven persons from Mumbai that were trapped in a farmhouse for about 12 hours due to overflowing of water near Pawana dam, were rescued by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) on Sunday morning.

The Bhandari family had checked into afarmhouse located outside Kothurne village, about 55 km from Pune, in Maval taluka, on Saturday. After the discharge of water from the dam, the water level started rising in the area. The family members said that they saw water near the farmhouse around 6 pm and ignored the warnings by the villagers.

The water level increased dangerously around midnight. Amit Bhandari, Vinayak Bhandari, Raju Bhandari, Anita Bhandari and her son, as well as workers Sunil Mohol and his wife, were trapped inside the bungalow. Fearing for their lives, they went to the second floor and waited eagerly for the water to recede.

However, at around 7:00 pm, they started shouting for help and alerted the villagers around, who contacted the district administration. They were rescued at around Sunday noon by the National Disaster Response Force, Vinayak Bhandari said.

After that, the NDRF staff and members of Shivdurg team rescued four persons from Lonavla, six buffaloes and seven cows, which were trapped in a nearby dairy.
