PIMPRI: While BJP members are demanding that PMPML Chairman and Managing Director Tukaram Mundhe be called back to the State administration, the NCP in Pimpri-Chinchwad has demanded that he should be appointed commissioner of Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC).
NCP has claimed that he is needed to curb large scale corruption in the civic body. This demand has also garnered support from Ghar Bachao Samiti (GBS), an organisation which is working for rights of people, who may lose their homes due to the upcoming ring road project.
President of NCP’s Pimpri-Chinchwad unit Sanjog Waghere said, “The ruling party is taking convenient decisions to safeguard vested interests and unfortunately, Municipal Commissioner Shravan Hardikar is supporting them. Hence, we demand that an upright officer like Tukaram Mundhe should be appointed as civic chief in PCMC. “
Waghere said, “The civic body has started road work of Rs 425 crore and contracts for the same have been awarded to favourite contractors. However, the commissioner has refused to initiate any inquiry into this.”
Meanwhile, chief co-ordinator of Ghar Bachao Samiti, Vijay Patil said, “From the last seven months, the ring road affected people are fighting to save their homes from getting demolished. If Mundhe takes charge, then people will get justice.”
