Natu nominated as academic council member of SPPU

PUNE: The visiting faculty of chemistry at the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER), Professor Arvind Natu, has been nominated as the academic council member of the Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU). His nomination was made by Chancellor C Vidyasagar Rao as per new Maharashtra Public University Act 2016.

“This is for the first time a nomination has been made by the chancellor as per the new University Act 2016,” said a former academic council member. 

He further said, “As per the previous Act, an academic council member was elected from the head of the departments, few were default members (like deans) and few will be selected from the postgraduate teachers’ faculty.” 

Meanwhile, Professor Natu, a retired senior scientist from the National Chemical Laboratory (NCL), was one of the members instrumental in the building of IISER Pune and Tirupati. His area of research includes biochemistry. His nomination will be till August 31, 2022.
