National issues run high on the minds of city youths

PUNE: Youngsters in the city have rated the candidates and political parties based on the current scenario of unrest in the state due to unemployment, privatisation in education, communal issues among others. The young voters have stated that they need a government which can boost the economic condition and bring effective changes in education and employment in the country.

Saili Ghadigaonkar, (25), accountant, Pimpri constituency said, “The increase in ‘reservation’ for various castes/communities has become a hurdle for ‘general’ category candidates. Despite being a deserving candidate with a good score and qualification, most among our category fail to seek opportunities in education, which affects our prospects of getting a better job. I want the new govt to end the reservation system.”

Amrapali Gaikwad (25), receptionist at a hospital, Vadgaonsheri constituency said, “I am currently working in Dhanori. At present, my work doesn’t give any guarantee of job security which is a concern for many people. I think there is a need for more government jobs.”

Preeti Raje Mahadik (27), Kothrud constituency said, “I have voted against the communal government that is trying to take us back to the old times, rather than taking us ahead. Of course, traditions and history are important. However, that doesn’t mean that you hold on to history so much that you forget to make progress. I know my vote may not make a difference but that is what I believe in.”

Apurva Shinde (21) student, Pune Cantonment constituency said, “We need educated leaders, not someone, who only has degrees and doesn’t understand the problems of people. There are employment opportunities but unfortunately, they are unavailable for many. Hence, whichever government comes to power, they should make the opportunities available for all.”

Suraj Navaskar (22), Mechanical Engineer, Kothrud constituency said, “Unemployment has been on the rise in the past three-four years. The number of companies coming to colleges for campus placements has been decreasing every year. I am going to have to change my field to get a decent job. I want the upcoming government to solve the issue of unemployment for us.”
