MVA govt allocates more funds to Pune

PUNE: The Mahavikas Aghadi government (MVA) has allocated more funds for Pune Metro railway project as compared to Nagpur Metro railway project. 

Ajit Pawar has allocated Rs 640 crore for Pune Metro railway project whereas Nagpur Metro railway project got Rs 295 crore in the Budget. 

After the Mahavikas Aghadi formed the government, it was the first Budget of the coalition. 

Finance Minister Pawar is also the District Guardian Minister of Pune. Pawar has given grace funds to Pune. Besides, he made announcements of ring road, metro route expansion, International Sport University, Olympic Bhavan, a hostel for working women and students, funds for Pune International film Festival (Rs 4 crore).

During the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led government in 2019-20, the State government had sanctioned Rs 300 crore for Nagpur Metro while Pune Metro rail project got Rs 230 crore in the budget for 2019-20.

Pawar also announced allocation of money to Vanaz-Ramwadi and Swargate-Katraj Metro line expansion. The expansions have been proposed at Wagholi, Bavdhan, Katraj and Hadapsar.

The State government has given Rs 1,656 crore for augmentation of metro rail network in the State, including Pune.

Pawar, during this speech, also said that the expansion will be done from Vanaz to Chandni Chowk and Hinjawadi to Pirangut. 

He said the State government will make sure that sufficient funds will be provided for the Pune Metro railway project.

Elected members from suburbs have been demanding extensions of existing metro railway routes. The demand was raised in the Pune Municipal Corporation meetings and in the State Assembly sessions.
