With much fervour, city gives Bappa a grand welcome

PUNE: Amidst dhol-tasha, grand processions and chanting of ‘Ganpati Bappa Morya’, the city welcomed Bappa on the first day of Ganesh Festival on Monday. While the idols of the five revered (Manache) Ganpatis were installed in the morning itself, several Ganesh processions were seen in the city throughout the day.

The procession of the first Manache Ganpati, Kasba Ganpati, was unique.

“We welcomed Bappa in our traditional procession this year. The Sangharsh dhol-tasha pathak, during the procession, has a special performance dedicated to women power and soldiers,” said Shrikant Shete of Kasba Ganpati Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandal.

For the second Manache Ganpati, the Tambdi Jogeshwari Ganpati Mandal has cut down on the celebration this year. “Whatever we manage to save this year will be sent for flood relief in Sangli and Kolhapur,” Prasad Kulkarni of Tambdi Jogeshwari Ganpati Mandal said.

The procession of the third Manache Ganpati, Guruji Talim, was also unique. “A group of 32 prisoners from Yerwada Jail participated in the Ganpati procession of our mandal this year. They were trained by Nadbrahma Dhol Tasha Pathak,” said  Prithviraj Pardeshi, a trustee of the Mandal.

The procession of the fourth Manache Ganpati, Tulshibaug Ganpati, was carr ied out in a chariot adorned with flowers this year.

HIGHLIGHTS THIS YEAR
Pune-Kashmir Sanskrutik Manch celebrated the first Kashmiri Ganesh Festival in Pune this year at Vinchurkar Wada in Sadashiv Peth, where the first public celebration of the festival began in Pune. The organisation has expressed the wish to to carry out the celebrations in Kashmir, at the Ganpatyar temple in Srinagar next year.

Meanwhile, Continuing its tradition of celebrating Ganesh Festival with grandeur, Shrimant Dagdusheth Halwai Ganpati Trust replicated the Konark Sun Temple this year.

Bhau Rangari Ganesh procession was this year led by Sambhaji Bhide of Shivpratishthan Hindustan.

Sharda-Ganpati of Akhil Mandai Mandal replicated Tirthankar Jain Mandir this year and the Ganesh idol was installed by Shantilal Mutha of Bharatiya Jain Sanghtana.
