MSRTC will introduce ‘NathJal’ packaged drinking water for passengers at stands

PUNE: On the footprints of Indian Railway which provides ‘Rail Neer’, the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) too is going to introduce drinking water ‘NathJal’ for its passengers. The name has been given in the honour of warkaris. The packaged drinking water will be made available at all bus stands. The service will be provided through a private party and the process was likely to be completed soon.

Almost a decade ago, the railways had introduced the packaged drinking water ‘Rail Neer’ to its passengers and impeded the unauthorised private companies from looting the passengers.

However, there were some private companies who can provide packaged drinking water, but they have an annual contract. Against this backdrop, the state transport department has taken a decision to provide water to its passengers at affordable rates. As per information shared by a senior official of the transport department,

“The word Nath in ‘NathJal’ has been named after the name of Sant Eknath. The name has been given in honour of warkaris.” Various brands of packaged drinking water has been available at all ST stands.

THE INITIATIVE
MSRTC will appoint a private party to distribute ‘NathJal’ at ST stands. The tender process is almost in the final stage. It was expected that the process will be completed before Diwali, but due to the model code of conduct, the department had postponed it. MSRTC has planned to sell ‘NathJal’ at around 500 stands across the state. The packaged drinking water will be provided by private companies to authorised vendors and distributors. Initially, the water will be available in 650 ml and 1 litre bottles which will cost Rs 10 and 15 respectively. The packaged drinking water will be sold only at ST stands.
