The facility was started with 24 sections of society ranging from students, senior citizens, disabled persons among others.

Pune: To bring in transparency, Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) launched the smart card
facility for senior citizens earlier this year. The facility was inaugurated in April in Pune division.

Although it is more than  one-and-a-half-months old, the scheme has failed to pick up expected pace.

The launch took place after receiving some complaints regarding fake tickets and bogus passes. The facility is only for senior citizens and they can avail 50 per cent concession on the pass.

“The facility was started a month ago at Swargate ST stand. It will take more time to cover other places, including Shivajinagar, Pune station and Pimpri-Chinchwad. When it started, we were expecting that more and more passengers will avail the facility. But after one month, only the registration process has been taken off,” a source told Sakal Times.

The facility was started with 24 sections of society ranging from students, senior citizens, disabled persons among others.

“The senior citizens can avail the pass up to 4,000 km. It gives 50 per cent concession for senior citizens in ordinary and semi-luxury buses and 45 per cent in Shivshahi buses,” said the source.
