MSME ministry plans to introduce honey sachets, says Nitin Gadkari

PUNE: The Central government has plans to promote large scale production of honey as a means to increase job opportunities in rural and tribal areas.

The Ministry of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME) is planning to introduce a honey sachet after discussions with all stakeholders, said Union Minister for MSME Nitin Gadkari.

He was addressing the media on Monday during his visit to the Central Bee Research Institute (CBRI).

Gadkari said, “When we talk about honey, we should not forget that one spoon of honey is equal to two spoons of sugar. Therefore, honey needs to be promoted. The MSME ministry has been doing research to manufacture honey cubes and introduce sachets. If the research goes in the right direction, people can get honey cubes and sachets at various locations across the country.”

Gadkari further said, “The MSME industry is an important part of growth. In the overall growth of the country, this industry has 29 per cent share. To promote this, there is a need to create more honey clusters in various parts of the country.”

“The MSME sector has 49 per cent of its export capacity, which needs to be boosted in the coming years. In the last financial year, this industry earned Rs 75,000 crore which needs to increase to Rs 5 lakh crore in the next five years,” he said.

“The growth of up to Rs 5 lakh crore would be possible only with the help of honey, blue economy, bamboo and bio-fuel. Improvement in this sector will increase the income of rural India and people will not find the need to migrate,” he added.
