Pune: A 25-year-old woman allegedly killed her four-year-old daughter and hanged her from a ceiling fan before hanging herself from the same fan at her residence in Indrayani Nagar of Bhosari on Wednesday.
The incident occurred at around 7.30 am at her residence on first floor of a four-storeyed building named Nirvan Residency in sector 2.
The deceased have been identified as Koumudi Iraspal and her daughter Divya. The police said Koumudi was staying with her daughter Divya, husband and his cousin. Iraspal was running a lathe machine workshop in Chakan.
Iraspal’s friend D Satan informed the police about the incident who broke open the door of Iraspal’s home to find the mother-daughter hanging from the ceiling fan with a saree in the hall of their flat.
Satan cut the saree to bring the mother-daughter duo down and rushed them to a hospital, but they were dead by then.
Police Inspector R Vibhandik who is investigating the case said Iraspal and his cousin left the home at 7 am and the mother-daughter were at home. At 8.30 am a relative of Koumudi reached the house and found it locked from inside with no response from Koumudi. Iraspal asked his friend to check his house and who found the two hanging in the house.
“We did not find any suicide note from the spot. We need to investigate the reasons behind Koumudi taking such a step,” added Vibhandik.
Bhosari police are investigating the case.
