More rainfall in state likely: IMD

Pune: The southwest monsoon has been vigorous over west Rajasthan and active over Jharkhand and Bihar, noted India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday. It has been subdued over east Madhya Pradesh, Marathwada, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Telangana and south interior Karnataka.

For Maharashtra, Konkan and Goa, Madhya Maharashtra and Vidarbha region are expected to get some rainfall on July 31. Konkan and Goa will witness heavy rainfall till August 3. Madhya Maharashtra, Vidarbha and Marathwada are expected to get some rainfall till August 3.

Total rainfall between Saturday evening and Sunday evening, as reported by 329 stations in the plains, is 176 centimetres. 

Normal rainfall for these stations is 433.5 centimetres. So far, Pune city has recorded rainfall of 399.5 millimetres, against the normal expected rainfall of 310.7 millimetres.

IMD has predicted that till August 5, fairly widespread rainfall is likely over foothills of the Himalayas, northeast India, west coast and Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Isolated to scattered rain over the rest of the country is expected.
