Mixed response for Pimpri Chinchwad bandh call

PIMPRI: The Pimpri Chinchwad bandh called on Friday by the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) to protest against a case registered against party leader Sharad Pawar received a mixed response in the city.

The bandh call received a good response in areas represented by NCP corporators. In other areas, there was a mixed or lukewarm response.

In Pimpri Gaon and Pimpri Camp, NCP City Unit President Sanjog Waghere and others organised a ‘padyatra’ to appeal to traders to close shops. Most shops in old Sangvi and Dapodi remained closed during the day in response to the bandh call. Essential services like hospitals and pharmacies were excluded. Shops in Shitole Nagar, Ekta Chowk, Priyadarshini Nagar, Dhole Nagar and Dapodi Gaonthan remained closed. 

Many shops in Chikhli also remained closed. Shopkeepers in Morevasti, Chikhli Road, Kudalwadi, Chikhli Gaonthan and Krishna Nagar responded to the bandh call. In Pimple Saudagar and Rahatani, traders responded well. There was a mixed response for the bandh call in Pimple Gurav. The shopkeepers in this area closed the shops in the morning and opened again a few hours later. Police personnel were posted at various locations to maintain law and order situation.

NCP City Working President Prashant Shitole and party workers had issued leaflets against the case registered by the Enforcement Directorate against Pawar.

Leader of Opposition in Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation Nana Kate and NCP workers had appealed to the shopkeepers to close their shops.
