Miscreants booked for abusing woman constables

Pune: Sleuths stationed at Pune police control room, which is the first point of contact for people requiring the assistance of police are at the receiving end this time from unidentified miscreants, who have continued a trail of abusive calls by dialling 100 for a period over a month starting since July.

A complaint regarding the abusive calls was registered at Bund Garden police station on Saturday by a lady constable, who was posted at police control room located inside Pune Police Commissionerate.

According to the complaint filed by the 37-year-old lady constable, “While working in the control room on the morning of July 2, 2018, she received a call from a number identified as 9119554239 and the caller on the other side starting talking to her in obscene and vulgar language and despite making repeated requests, the caller continued talking in sexually abusive language and disconnected.

Two days later on July 4, the call from similar number was made in the morning and the constable, who was on duty, received similar profanities from the caller followed by similar abusive calls from different numbers for multiple times in July.”

As per the complaint, after the call of July 4, the calls were received from three more other numbers identified as 9130379401, 7350551624 and 7066995364, where the callers were using the same abusive language while talking to police officials.

The Bund Garden police have informed that initially, the officials at control room avoided making a complaint thinking that some miscreants are doing it for fun but when the multiples calls of similar nature were received, a police complaint was filed.

The police have started a started a probe into the matter to nab the offenders and registered a case under section 509 (Word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of IPC against them.
