Minister Eknath Shinde inaugurates second TBM

PUNE: Maharashtra Urban Development Minister Eknath Shinde on Sunday inaugurated the second tunnel boring machine (TBM) of MahaMetro at Agriculture College ground. While the first TBM has already dug up more than 100 metres of the tunnel, the second TBM will now start the tunnelling process from Agriculture College in Shivajinagar. The minister, who was in the city on Sunday, assured that there will be no hindrance in the metro project and he will see to it that the project is executed smoothly. “We assure full support from our side to MahaMetro in the metro work. Soon citizens in Pune will get to ride in metro train,” added Shinde.

MahaMetro officials said there will be four machines to help finish the 5-km tunnel work from Shivajinagar to Swargate. While two TBMs have started functioning at Agriculture College ground, another two TBMs will soon arrive in Pune and start digging the tunnel from Swargate in March 2020. Total four TBMs will be used to dig the up and down lines of the 5-km underground tunnel.

MahaMetro Managing Director Brijesh Dixit said the TBMs are world class machinery and people will not face any problem while the tunnelling work is in progress. While interacting with reporters on Sunday after the inauguration, Shinde said the decision to launch Rs 10 lunch plate and farmer loan waiver are two major decisions taken by the government and this is the cause of ‘stomachache’ of BJP leaders. Responding to rumours of Minister of State Abdul Sattar resigning from Ministry, Shinde said he has personally spoken with Sattar and assured that he will not leave Sena. “We are aware of the kind of people involved in spreading rumours” added Shinde.
