Min temp dips to 9.4 degrees Celsius in city

PUNE: Puneites experienced the much awaited winter on Thursday, after the night temperature touched 9.4 degrees Celsius and the day temperature was 29 degrees Celsius. India Meteorological Department (IMD) also forecast a cold wave like condition till December 29 over Marathwada and Vidarbha.

On Thursday, the lowest minimum temperature in the State was recorded in Gondia at 7.3 degrees Celsius.

However, according to IMD, New Year may be slightly warmer than the last week of December. The temperature forecast for minimum temperature in the city for the week is 11 degrees Celsius and maximum temperature is 29 degrees Celsius.

The lowest minimum temperature recorded across the country was three degrees Celsius at Mandla in east Madhya Pradesh. Very dense fog was observed at isolated places over Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. 

Dense fog was observed at isolated places over Himachal Pradesh, sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim and Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura and Coastal Andhra Pradesh. 

Moderate fog observed at isolated places over Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Assam, Meghalaya and Gangetic West Bengal. The lowest visibility was observed at Amritsar, Purnea, Hardoi, Bareilly, Ludhiana, Fursatganj, Sultanpur, Bahraich, Gorakhpur and Bhagalpur.

IMD forecast that dense to very dense fog is likely at isolated places over Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi and Punjab, till December 31.
