MiG-21, T-55 tank unveiled at The Bishop’s School

PUNE: The Bishop’s School unveiled a MiG-21 aircraft and a T-55 tank, the war symbols on Friday.

The battle tank and aircraft were unveiled by General Officer Commanding Dakshin Maharashtra Sub-Area Major General Navneet Kumar, Lt General AB Shivane (Retd) and Governing Body members of the school.

“The symbolic representation of the tank and aircraft will serve two purposes for the school. First, it will be a source of motivation for children and future generations. Secondly, a symbol of constant reminder of warrior who stands there tall braving all challenges, while we enjoy here. To that extent I would say, our national flag doesn’t flutter because of the breeze, but because of the last breathe of the martyr who stood tall guarding it,” said Lt Gen Shivane in his address.

“The tank here stands as a symbol for the students in this school. While undertaking the mission to protect our nation, there are three things that stand out clearly -- discipline, proficiency and team spirit. Don’t consider it as a showpiece, but understand the message of it,” he added.

“The objective is to ensure the legacy which the school has of joining the armed forces. In last 10-15 years many have been drawn towards corporate sector, so the legacy was diminishing. After interacting with the alumni, we requested the army to install them on campus,” said Principal Joel Edwin.

Col SK Pudumjee (92), alumni, who was also present on the occasion, said this moment is historic and efforts like these are made to keep the students motivated to join the forces.
