Metro stations to have historic touch: Dixit

Pune: To mark the first anniversary of Pune Metro work's commencement, a group discussion was organised by officials of Mahametro at Balgandharva Rangmandir on Tuesday. 

Mahametro Managing Director Brijesh Dixit said that metro stations will be getting iconic designs reflecting the culture of Pune. He also appreciated the efforts taken by Puneites and all government bodies to accelerate the progress of the metro project in the city. "The stations will have solar roofs and walkways inspired by the history of the respective areas," added Dixit.

Municipal Commissioner Kunal Kumar, Ramnath Subramaniam, Executive Director of Mahametro, orthopaedic physician Dr KH Sancheti, Technical Advisor of Maharashtra Metro Railway Corporation Shashikant Limaye and Swati Mujumdar of Symbiosis Education Trust were also present.

Swati Mujumdar said that Metro stops should be convenient for students. "Metro should also operate during late hours," she added. Addressing issues of safety concern of students, Dixit said that the metro would function during late hours and will be monitored by CCTVs and will have panic buttons. He added that discounted cards for students will also be introduced.

Speaking about the project, Dr Sancheti said that the Metro project will help the city in a big way. "The city is expanding by leaps and bounds and so are the problems of traffic congestion and population and the metro is a good solution to these problems," added Sancheti.
