Meet for spreading awareness about DBT

PUNE: City-based Tathapi, a women and health Resource organisation, will arrange a meeting to spread awareness about Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT).

Many patients from all age groups suffer from borderline personality disorder, who may seek therapy through DBT. This meeting aims to spread more awareness about the therapy.

According to medical experts, DBT or Dialectical Behavior Therapy is an evidence-based psychotherapy that began with efforts to treat Borderline Personality Disorder. DBT has proven useful in treating mood disorders, suicidal ideation and for change in behavioural patterns such as self-harm and substance abuse.

Sharing her experience on DBT, Mira Sadgopal said it is never too late to take help. She will share her experience during the meeting.

“After 56 years of cyclical highs and lows, in and out of the care of two or three dozen mental health professionals, I found a way to work with myself and look forward with joy for the rest of my years,” said Sadgopal.

Experts said that people who are suffering from mood disorders and other issues related to mental health can attend this meet. The idea is to change the perspective towards the problem and help a person devise a plan for themselves. Also, the focus of the meeting is to share the idea of mindfulness.
