Meet on raising edu standards at Alandi

Pune: To encourage a partnership between the State Government and educational societies, the Maharashtra Rajya Shikshan Sanstha Mahamandal (Maharashtra State Educational Societies Association) has organised a two-day conference on December 22 and 23 at Alandi.

The conference will be inaugurated by State Education Minister Vinod Tawde at Dnyaneshwar Shikshan Sanstha, Alandi. The authorities from the association and the speakers will discuss topics pertaining to raising the standard of education in collaboration with the government.

“To improve the education sector, the government alone cannot decide on all the policies, which is why we want to contribute to the same,” Vijay Patil, President of the association said.

Patil and other members recently met the minister to discuss their demands and suggestions pertaining to recruitments and grants.

“While speaking about the teachers’ recruitment in the State, we suggested to the minister that instead of only considering the scores of the teachers in the aptitude tests, their masters’ degree marks also need to be considered. Fortunately, the minister responded affirmatively,” Patil said.

One of the major demands was the introduction of aptitude test for the post of principal. Patil said, “In Gujarat, the principal is selected by the scores of an aptitude test, while in Maharashtra, it is purely guided by seniority of the teachers, which we feel should be changed to a proper process.”

Another proposal by the association states that if the government supports the schools to build infrastructure for creating solar panels, the schools will sell the energy that it does not use to the government at half the price.

The association has demanded that the non-salary grants the government is supposed to give to the schools, should be given according to the Seventh Pay Commission.
