Pimpri: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers in Maval taluka distributed sweets and burst firecrackers to celebrate the inclusion of Maval’s two-term MLA Sanjay Bhegde into the State Cabinet on Sunday.
A large number of BJP office-bearers and workers from Maval taluka had gone to Mumbai to attend the swearing-in ceremony of their MLA.
Those who attended the swearing-in ceremony included members of Bhegde’s family, Lonavla Municipal Council President Surekha Jadhav, Talegaon Municipal Council President Chitra Jagnade and Dehu Road Cantonment Board’s Vice-President Sarika Naiknavare.
Other BJP workers celebrated the inclusion of Bhedge into the ministry in Vadgaon, Talegaon, Lonavla, Dehu Road and other areas of Maval taluka.
Sanjay Bhegde’s father, Vishwanathrao Bhegde, was a loyal BJP worker and had three times unsuccessfully contested Maval Assembly polls. He helped BJP in strengthening its base in Maval taluka.
Sanjay alias Bala Bhegde began his political career as Maval taluka president of BJP Yuva Morcha in 2004 and won the Maval assembly seat for the first time in 2009. He was BJP State general secretary when Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis was party’s State president.
Bhegde, who has won the second consecutive term to the State Assembly, is also President of Pune district BJP unit. The party has performed well in Maval taluka and district during his term as an MLA and district party president.
The BJP also won in many municipal councils during this period.
The newly-inducted minister thanked people in Maval taluka for their support at a small function held soon after the swearing-in ceremony.
