Marathi film Mhorkya to be released today

PUNE: Unable to find a single theatre for screening, the National award-winning Marathi film ‘Mhorkya’ could not be released in Maharashtra on Friday. Director of the film, Amar Deokar, has expressed his disappointment saying that it was the negligence on part of the film’s presenter that has led to this issue.

“For a film to be released in theatres on Friday, the digital copies (DCs) of the film needs to reach the cinema halls by Wednesday itself, as they need 24 hours to be uploaded. However, our presenter, Aispais Lab, did not provide cinema halls with the DCs until Thursday evening. As a result, the theatres scheduled screenings of other films on Friday, and our film had to be postponed to Saturday,” Deokar said.

The film will now be released on February 8 (Saturday). Also, since the cinema halls have already reserved their screens and slots for the other films until Friday afternoon, Mhorkya has managed to get just around 39 theatres across State.

“It is very disappointing. We missed our opening day and it will incur huge losses for us. This was totally because of the negligence on part of the presenters. More than the money that we lost, we are sad and angry that we cannot even reach as many people as we had expected,” Deokar said.

He added, “We have been told that this happens very commonly with the new filmmakers in the industry. However, I am not going to keep quiet about this exploitation. It is about the hard work that over 300 artists have put in for the film. We are going to raise our voice against this.”
