Man uses matrimonial site to cheat woman of Rs 3 lakh

Pune: A day after Sakal Times reported about how a 30-year-old woman was cheated to the tune of Rs 95,000 by a cyber fraudsters who got in touch with her through a profile she had created on a matrimonial website, in another such case, an interior designer was cheated to the tune of Rs 3 lakh by a fraudster who identified himself as Kunal Patil on a popular matrimonial website.

A cheating case has been lodged at Hadapsar police station. According to the Hadapsar police, the 26-year-old victim, came in contact with the fraudster on a matrimonial site. The victim got interested in Patil’s profile and the duo started chatting.

Police Sub-Inspector M Bhange who is investigating the case said that Kunal had posed as a businessman and the victim got attracted to his profile.

“Later, Kunal told the victim that he needed of Rs 3 lakh as he had to bag an important business tender. The victim thought to help Kunal as he had assured to marry her. The victim and fraudster never met each other in person,” added Bhange.

The incident took place between February 18 and July 12. The police said that the victim later asked the accused to pay back the money, but he did not return the money. After few days, the victim was not able to contact the accused and hence, she approached the Hadapsar police station and lodged a complaint.
