Pune: A man who was on the run after shooting his wife with a pistol was chased and nabbed by Chakan police.
The arrested accused was identified as Vijay Ramdin Jathar (26), a resident of Chakan who hails from Madhya Pradesh.
According to Police Sub Inspector (PSI) Shridhar Jagtap of Chakan police, the incident occurred at 9 am when the victim Kajal Jathar (18), who was on her way to buy something from a shop was attacked by Vijay.
“Vijay was armed with a pistol and a knife. After following Kajal he shot a round at her chest and escaped from the spot,” added Jagtap.
The police said the incident took place at Shiroli Pait Road about 12 km from Chakan. While escaping the accused forced a two-wheeler rider to take him to Chakan. Local people tried to chase Vijay, but he fired another round at them and they were scared.
The Chakan police were informed, after which PSI Jagtap, policemen Ajay Bhapkar, Chandrakant Gavari, Sandip Rasal rushed to nab Vijay. They chased and nabbed Vijay near Hotel Good Luck. The accused did not have any more bullets. “We recovered the pistol and a knife from him. Vijay claimed Kajal is his wife and they got married nine months ago. Vijay said it was a love marriage, but they are not on good terms and stay separately,” added Jagtap.
Chakan police said that the couple work on daily wages. Police said Vijay will be booked for attempted murder and under the Arms Act. Kajal is undergoing treatment in a hospital.
