Man kills parents in Shaniwar Peth

Pune: In a shocking incident, a 30-year-old unemployed engineer who was addicted to alcohol and undergoing treatment for depression, allegedly killed his parents in their sleep in Shaniwar Peth. After killing his parents, he tried to commit suicide. The incident came to light on Wednesday morning, when his brother’s wife found them in a pool of blood.

The police have identified the deceased as Prakash Kshirsagar (60), his wife Asha (55) and their arrested son as Parag. Police officials said that Parag’s brother Prateek and his wife were in the house when the incident took place in their flat in Pate Heights building in Shaniwar Peth.  Prakash Kshirsagar worked with a construction company. He was recently given extension after his retirement. Asha worked at an office of the Education Department in Camp.

According to the police, Parag is addicted to alcohol and currently, he was unemployed. He was under depression and used to have quarrels with his family members. On Tuesday night also, he had quarrelled with his parents. On Wednesday morning, his brother’s wife found him and her parents-in-law in a pool of blood and raised an alarm. The neighbours informed the police who shifted Parag to Sassoon Hospital for treatment.   
A police officer said, “The accused used a piece of glass to slit the throat of his father and then strangled his mother to death with a rope.” Senior PI Appasaheb Shewale, in-charge of Vishrambag police station, said, “We have arrested Parag on the charges of murder and attempt to commit suicide.”
