Man assaulted by neighbours in Chinchwad

Pune: A 24-year-old engineer, who hails from Bihar, was allegedly assaulted by his drunken neighbour and his two sons in Chinchwad on Saturday. Initially, Nigdi police officials registered a non-cognisable offence but later registered an FIR against six persons.

Sanjar Alam Mohammad Azad (24), a resident of Sneha Housing Society in Purna Nagarm Chinchwad, has lodged a complaint. He has been staying in the society with his friends for the past three years.  Police have booked Ramavtar Kaushik (55), Manoj Kaushik (25) and Manish Kaushik (27), all residents of the same society. The other three persons are yet to be identified. According to the complaint, the incident took place around 11.30 pm on December 9 when Alam was taking a stroll in the open space at the society.

“Ramavtar was enquiring from my roommates about which flat they lived in, whether they have an agreement and knew about the secretary. When I went there, he asked the same things and I told him the details. When I asked who he was, he said he is the owner of the society. I asked him to contact my landlord for queries. As he was drunk I left from there. He got angry and began abusing me. He called his two sons, who were standing nearby, and asked them to get swords and sticks. They dragged me down the stairs and began beating me with fists and kicks. They were joined by other unidentified persons, who too thrashed me. Many society members had gathered there but nobody came forward to help. After some time, a boy pulled me aside and I managed to escape,” Alam said.

Alam sustained injuries to stomach and chest. PSI RM Bhoye is investigating the case. No arrests had been made till late Monday night.
