Man arrested for flashing woman

Pune: The increased number of CCTV cameras helped Hadapsar police nab a man, who had flashed at a woman while on her morning walk in Amanora Park Town, on Friday. 

The arrested accused has been identified as Gaurishankar Mahapatra (35), who is a senior officer with a telecom company. 

Senior Police Inspector Sunil Tambe, in-charge of Hadapsar police station, said, “The woman was walking with her dog at around 7 am. The accused suddenly came in front of her and flashed at her. Later, the woman lodged an FIR against the unidentified person. Our team checked 115 CCTV cameras and zeroed in on him based on his description and vehicle make. The accused works with a private telecom company.”

The investigation team included API Prasad Lonare, Sanjay Chavan, and policemen Yusuf Pathan, Sadoba Bhojrao, Ganesh Dalvi, Pramod Tilekar, Pratap Gaikwad, Shashikant Nale, Akbar Shaikh, Anil Kusalkar, among others.

1,300 CCTV cameras installed
Senior Police Inspector Sunil Tambe, in-charge of Hadapsar police station, said, “As part of the new initiative to install CCTV cameras, we have got about 1,300 cameras installed in our jurisdiction. Efforts are on to get more cameras. These cameras are of immense help in preventing as well as in detecting crimes.”
