Major dengue outbreak in city with 1,100 cases, 4 deaths so far this yr

PUNE: The city is witnessing a major outbreak of dengue, with over 1,100 dengue cases confirmed so far this year. Out of these, over 526 cases were reported in October alone. These are the highest number of confirmed dengue cases in the last three years.

In Pune Municipal Corporation’s (PMC) General Body meeting conducted on Monday, the opposition party leaders lashed out at the administration, stating that this is a complete failure of the civic body to assess the problem in advance and take necessary steps.

Dengue cases in the city have seen a constant rise, with the total suspected cases since January crossing the 4,000-mark. The areas which continue to remain prone to dengue include Yerawada and Dhanori, where 213 cases were reported so far.

The Insect Control Department of PMC sent notices to over 4,500 people after detection of mosquito breeding spots in their households. Despite this, the civic body has failed to control this vector-borne disease. Two days ago, there was heated discussion in PMC General Body over PMC’s alleged failure to control this menace.

According to the Health Department’s data, four confirmed deaths were reported due to dengue so far this year. According to the data, this is the highest number
