PUNE: Mahametro will build a walkway below the metro line near Deccan to help people commute to Peth and nearby areas.

Addressing a press conference, Gautam Birhade, Chief Project Manager of Mahametro, said that the walkway will help pedestrians move from one end to other. Mahametro has started work of building pillars on Karve Road and the work for the same will start in a few weeks. “We have started the work of cutting footpaths and shifting lamp posts. About 80 lamp posts will have to be shifted while carrying out the work,” added Birhade.

Speaking about seamless travel, Birhade said that they have signed an MoU with officials from Railways and Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) for a seamless travel plan at Shivajinagar and Pune railway station and state transport bus stops. Speaking about the development of Vanaaz and Agriculture College depots, Birhade said that tenders for design of the metro train depots have been alloted. “About 28 acres of land is available for Vanaaz depot and 34 acres of land in Agriculture College for the depot,” he added.
