MahaMetro banks on 5D-BIM technology

PUNE: Officials of the MahaMetro have decided to take the help of technology to bring in operational efficiency while handling the 11,420 crore metro project and have decided to use 5D BIM (5 dimension building information modelling) technology which will help them monitor their progress on different parameters round the clock.

Officials claim the use of the technology will keep the progress of metro on track. Following the use of different models of the technology, officials of MahaMetro said that they have completed about 23 per cent of the work on the Pimpri-Swargate corridor of the metro project. The MahaMetro has decided to complete work of a few stations on priority by 2019. Earlier, MahaMetro MD Brijesh Dixit had said that MahaMetro is eyeing at the completion of Pimpri-Shivajinagar route of metro before 2021.

Speaking about the 5D BIM technology metro officials said that the technology will help evaluate the project on time as-well-as cost factor.

“The use of the technology will help officials plan better and improve operational efficiency. Earlier people would use traditional methods but this technology gives an edge and real-time updates at one location. The use of technology also helps in avoiding errors. This will add to tremendous advantages to foresee the risks and hindrances for early mitigation, expedite the construction of the metro project. Similarly, it helps in tracking changes to design more efficiently. It is an intelligent model-based process that provides insight to help you plan, design, construct, and manage buildings and infrastructure systematically. It is an important tool for solving the design and construction coordination based on project progress and project cost,” said a MahaMetro official.
