MahaMetro acquires land for underground metro in the city

PUNE: MahaMetro officials on Tuesday said that they almost completed the land acquisition process for the underground metro project from Shivajinagar to Swargate, which will help in completing the project on time. MahaMetro has planned five underground stations including Shivajinagar, Civil Court, Budhwar Peth, Mandai and Swargate.

Earlier, MahaMetro had planned to build the Budhwar Peth station in Kasba Peth but after opposition from the locals, the authority chose to shift the station by 100 metres and now, the station will be at Dadoji Konddev School.

MahaMetro officials said that they have received the land parcel at Shivajinagar and have started construction for the same at Shivajinagar State Transport Bus Stand.

The authority has planned an entry structure at the land belonging to All India Radio. MahaMetro had earlier started the work of building shaft at Agriculture College and Swargate which will be used as entry and exit points for metro trains. The land for the civil court station has also been acquired by the authority.

Speaking about the Budhwar Peth station, which had to be shifted, a MahaMetro official said that they will be using the land of Dadoji Konddev School which has been approved by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC).

“Earlier, we had planned to build the station in Kasba Peth area and we had planned to rehabilitate the affected residents but now, we are saving on the rehabilitation amount. We have got a small land but we can manage,” said a MahaMetro official.

MahaMetro has planned Shivajinagar, Swargate, Civil Court stations as a multi-modal hub.
