Maha Metro making DPR for extension of Pimpri-Swargate route

PUNE: Maha Metro is in the process of making the detailed project report (DPR) of extension of Pimpri-Swargate metro project.

Maha Metro MD Brijesh Dixit on Wednesday said the metro will be extended to Nigdi on the Pimpri side and to Katraj on the Swargate side.

“We are positive that we will be able to execute the extension of metro project which we have named as Phase One A,” added Dixit.

Speaking on the finance part of the Metro project, Dixit said currently they are executing the project based on funds provided by the Central and the State governments.

“However we will need Rs 850 crore which we are planning to raise from European Investment Bank (EIB) and AFD France. We are having the finance meet with EIB on January 18,” added Dixit.

Dixit said building of metro stations will start soon. “There will be six wagons in each train and the length of metro station will be 126 metres as each wagon will be of 21 metres. We will start work of building Vanaz, Ideal Colony, Anand Nagar, Sant Tukaram Nagar and others,” added Dixit.

About Vanaz, Dixit said, “Metro and Shivshrushti both are projects of PMC and so they should take a call on the development of Shivshrushti. The earlier we get the land for the depot the sooner we can start our metro.”

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) had reserved the Kothrud garbage depot site for the Shivaji Maharaj memorial, to be called ‘Shivshrusti’ and the Mahametro planned the metro depot in same area.
