LokSabha 2019: NCP’s Parth to fight with seasoned Barne in Maval

LokSabha 2019: NCP’s Parth to fight with seasoned Barne in Maval

PUNE: Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) Chief Sharad Pawar’s great-nephew and senior NCP leader Ajit Pawar’s son Parth is challenging sitting MP of Shiv Sena Shrirang Barne in Maval constituency.

It is a tough fight between experienced Barne and young Parth. Though, Parth is from Pawar family, he has failed to impress voters in his rallies so far.

Maval constituency consists of Panvel, Karjat, Uran, Maval, Pimpri and Chinchwad assembly constituencies. In the last Lok Sabha polls, Barne won the seat by defeating Peasants and Workers Party of India (PWP) candidate Laxman Jagtap (Now, he is BJP’s Pimpri-Chinchwad city unit chief) with margin of 1,57,397 votes. On the other hand, NCP’s Rahul Narvekar got 1,82,293 votes. The total of Jagtap and Narvekar is more than votes of Barne. Barne got the benefit of division of votes in last Lok Sabha polls.

Now, there is no powerful third candidate in Maval constituency. There is a direct contest between Barne and Parth Pawar. PWP has stronghold in Raigad, Uran and Katraj assembly constituencies where Pimpri and Chinchwad is stronghold of NCP. At present, many former NCP leaders have joined BJP in PCMC area. NCP Chief Sharad Pawar and senior leader Ajit Pawar are in touch with all former NCP leaders which is making BJP uncomfortable. Pawar has resolved all problems in the party, especially in PCMC area. The PWP is one of the partners of Congress-NCP led Grand alliance and PWP leader Jayant Patil was in forefront to demand candidature for Parth.

The most crucial factor that Pawar family has made Maval election prestigious as third generation of Pawar is debuting in politics.

The Shiv Sena has a strong network in Maval constituency, but BJP has not shown full support to Barne. Both alliance parties’ leaders don’t have friendly relations and smooth coordination which may create problems for Barne. There is another factor of anti-incumbency which may create problem for him. He has good track record in Lok Sabha. There are three legislators of Shiv Sena in Maval constituency. BJP city unit chief Laxman Jagtap patching up with Barne has given him a boost.
