LokSabha 2019: Despite EC ban, voters carry their mobiles

PUNE: Despite a repeated appeal by the district election authority to not use mobile phones outside the polling booths, avoiding selfies or recording videos at the polling booth, voters at several polling booths of the city were seen carrying their mobile phones while casting their votes.

Similarly, neither the police officers nor the election authorities were keeping a check on the voters. The lack of vigil was also noticed at Vasant Dada Patil PMC School near Someshwar Mandir, Bavdhan and Chandni Chowk.

Vaishali Joshi, a resident of Baner who cast her vote at Vasant Dada Patil PMC School, said, “There was no check on carrying mobile phones. We knew from media coverage that mobile phones will not be allowed inside. But no one in the polling ward told us to keep the mobile phone outside.”

Jyotiram Sitaprao, who voted at the same school, said, “The announcement by election authority was done for a reason but it was not implemented at all. Anybody could take their mobile phones inside and do whatever they want.”

Avinash Gotkule, a resident of Pashan, said, “We earlier thought of not carrying mobile phones but then we changed our mind. But the situation at the polling booth was not in the way as it was mentioned by the election authority. We carried our mobile phones inside the polling booth.”
