LokSabha 2019: Cong to kick-start poll campaign in city today

PUNE: Since the Congress has already taken too much time to announce their candidate, now, party workers are eager to start the election campaign as early as possible. The party, however, have decided to start the campaign on the auspicious day of Gudhi Padwa on Saturday. On the other hand, BJP has stolen a march in the election campaign and they are almost completing their first round of campaigning.

One of the Congress workers expressed his worry about the delayed campaign. He said, “We have wasted four days of the campaign. The party has already delayed in declaring candidate for Pune city. Now, the party has decided to start an official election campaign from Saturday. We have very few days left to campaign.”

Ramesh Iyer, Congress spokesperson of Pune city, said, “We will start election campaign on Saturday morning from Bhavani Mata Temple. We have already started meeting people and different communities.”

RAHUL GANDHI MEETS PARTY WORKERS
In another development, Congress President Rahul Gandhi was in Pune on Friday for an interaction with students. He landed in Pune on Thursday evening. Early on Friday morning, Gandhi held a meeting with party leaders, corporators, block presidents and party workers at a city hotel. He told workers about anti-poverty scheme Nyunatam Aay Yojana, which has been mentioned in the Congress manifesto and that they should tell people about it during the campaign.

He appealed to party workers to work hard as this Lok Sabha election is crucial. Like Mumbai, Pune is also an important city. “Pune Lok Sabha constituency is prestigious for Congress. The party has given candidature to party workers and therefore, they should win the Pune with the help of the alliance party and help them too,” Rahul said.

State Congress President Ashok Chavan, former chief minister Prithviraj Chavan, Harshvardhan Patil, City President Ramesh Bagwe and Pune Lok Sabha candidate Mohan Joshi were present for the meeting. Meanwhile, NCP candidates of Baramati Supriya Sule, Shirur candidate Dr Amol Kolhe and Maval candidate Parth Pawar and Congress City Unit Chief Chetan Tupe met Rahul Gandhi at the hotel.
