LokSabha 2019: Activists to campaign against Sadhvi

PUNE: A team of social activists from Maharashtra and Pune-based Mul Nivasi Manch workers have decided to campaign against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate from the Bhopal Lok Sabha constituency Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur.

Mul Nivasi Manch President Anjum Inamdar on Wednesday held a press conference in this regard. Former Senior Police Officer Suresh Khopade, social activist Ramesh Rakshe, Datta Pol were present on the occasion.

Speaking during the conference, Inamdar said, “The Bharatiya Janata Party is trying to change the Constitution of our country. It is dividing the nation on communal lines. The party has given candidature to Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur, who is a suspect in the Malegaon bomb blast case of 2008. At present, she is out on bail. We don’t want an anti-national person in Parliament. So, we have decided to campaign against her in Bhopal.”

Recently, Thakur made a controversial statement on the 26/11 hero martyred ATS chief Hemant Karkare, claiming that Karkare died during the Mumbai terror attacks as she had ‘cursed’ him for ‘torturing’ her.

She is also one of the accused in the Malegaon bomb blast. Hence, the Manch has decided to campaign against her.

“In all, 200 activists from across the State will participate in the campaign against the Sadhvi. The activists and Manch workers from Nashik, Nagpur, Osmanabad, Malegaon, Mumbai, Sindhudurg will be a part of this campaign. The family members of the Malegaon blast victims will also join us. We will reach Bhopal on May 1 and start our campaign,” Inamdar said.

He added, “We are in touch with social activists in Bhopal. They will make all the arrangements for our campaign. We don’t want anti-national elements in Parliament. It is an insult to nationalism.”

Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur launched a severe attack against former Maharashtra ATS chief late Hemant Karkare for allegedly implicating her in the Malegaon blast case and subjecting her to torture during the interrogation. Sadhvi criticised Karkare at a public meeting in Bhopal, which went viral on social media.
