LokSabha 2019: ‘Working persons to be relieved on polling days’

PUNE: With the beginning of election season, it will be mandatory for the offices - government as well as private - to relieve their employees on the day of polling. Also, if the polling address of the employee is different from where the work place, the companies and offices will be bound to relieve the employ on those respective days of polling.

The General Administration department of State Government had issued a notification on March 27 stating that the Government of Maharashtra has declared public holidays on account of General elections of 2019. As per the notification, public holiday will also apply to the registered voters of the poll-bound areas even if they are working outside the territorial limits of such areas. The notification stated that it does not apply only to the voters belonging to the Central or State Government Offices, Central/State Government undertakings or other entities, implying that private companies too need to declare holidays.

District Collector Naval Kishore Ram informed Sakal Times that they will declare leave on polling day for all offices.

“Lok Sabha election is the biggest election in the country. We have, of course, declared holiday on the day of polling in Pune. We have made provisions of leave for those employees whose polling dates are different because they are from different constituencies,” said HR Manager Nilesh Salvi, who is also member of HR Forum, Hinjawadi Industries Association.

“We have recieved notification from Government of Maharshtra that paid holiday will be given to the employees and it is applicable to private sector as well. If inescapable, two to three hours break will be given and for much cases, prior intimation should be given to the Municipal Commissioner. We have circulated this notification to all the member companies and they will be taking responsible decisions on the same,” said Col Charanjeet Bhogal (Rtd), Chief Operating Officer, Hinjawadi Industries Association.
