LokSabha 2019: ‘3.92 lakh voters added in Pune district’

Pune: A total of 41.87 lakh voters will be voting for the Lok Sabha elections to be held on April 23 in Pune and Baramati constituencies. There is an increase of 3.92 lakh voters in Pune district, said District Collector Naval Kishore Ram at a press conference held at the Collectorate on Saturday. 

He said the district administration is ready for peaceful polling.

He also added that 6,743 and 6,278 voter application forms in Pune and Baramati, respectively, were rejected due to incorrect details such as address and photo identification. To conduct peaceful and transparent elections, there is a zonal officer for every 8 to 12 polling stations in Pune and Baramati.
 
Special training is given to all zonal officers and presiding officers to handle Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) and VVPAT to avoid any malfunction. He said under the Election Commission’s Systematic Voters Education and Electoral Participation Program (SVEEP), a lot of activities have been conducted to increase awareness among voters and to motivate them to vote.

The District Collector said there are six polling booths each in Pune and Baramati constituency with only female polling staff to facilitate voting by women. He further added that there are 226 polling booths in Pune and 285 polling booths in Baramati, which will be supervised through webcasting. There are also 91 critical polling booths in Pune and 61 in Baramati.

There are around 6,000 officials across the forces, including police, CRPF, etc, who will be deployed in Pune on polling day. A team of 5,000 will be deployed in Baramati, said Mitesh Ghatte, DCP (Special Branch) of Pune police. Sandip Patil, Superintendent of Police (Pune rural), was also present.

According to data provided by the district administration, approximately Rs 46 lakh of cash was seized in Pune and approximately Rs 22 lakh was seized in Baramati during the model code of conduct. A total of 2,122 litres of alcohol was seized in Pune while 49,953 litres was seized in Baramati. In Pune, a total of 213 arms were deposited while 2,768 arms were deposited in Baramati.

A total of 340 cases in Pune and 270 cases in Baramati have been registered and disposed of by cVigil app.
