Labourers facing issue in online registration

PUNE: In the absence of Aadhaar-linked mobile number, construction labourers in the State are facing problems in the online registration on the website of Maharashtra Building and Other Construction Workers’ Welfare Board (Mahabocw). Not only this, they are also having difficulties in enrolling for various government schemes. This was revealed by Yogita Shendge, Founder-President of Shramik Kimyagar Sangh, an association of construction workers, during a press conference held on Saturday.

Shendge said, “Construction labourers are facing issues in online registration when they fill details on the website of Mahabocw. It demands an Aadhaar-linked mobile number, on which an OTP comes. Then you can complete the registration. Usually, not every construction labourer has a mobile phone and their numbers also keep changing. There are women who usually have a mobile number in their husband’s name.”

She said, “Due to this reason, labourers are facing issues in online registration, which is creating a problem in their work and also in enrolling for various government schemes. We have also submitted our request in the labour commissioner’s office and waiting for their response. If they won’t respond in the coming month, we will protest in March.”
