Kunal Kumar hands over the charge of municipal commissioner’s post

Pune: Municipal Commissioner Kunal Kumar handed over charge of his post after the State government sent an order on Friday. Kumar handed over charge to Additional Municipal Commissioner Sheetal Ugle-Teli in the afternoon. 

The Union government recently issued an order to appoint Kumar as Joint Secretary, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs in New Delhi. 

After almost one month, the State government issued an order and relieved him from commissioner’s charge. 

Kumar was trying hard to get extension of three months from the State government. However, he did not get the extension. He has completed four years in the corporation. 

He formulated different policies in his tenure such as Comprehensive Bicycle Policy, parking policy, pedestrian policy, trenching policy and public toilet policy. Smart City, Mula-Mutha Riverfront development, 24x7 water supply projects are his big achievements. Raising municipal bonds for water supply project was done in his tenure. 

Rajendra Nimbalkar, Additional Municipal Commissioner said, “The State government has issued an order to relieve Kunal Kumar. So, he handed over his charge to Sheetal Ugle-Teli. I am also going for training for one month in Ooty.” 

Kumar took charge as PMC commissioner in August 2014. He has served the maximum tenure (more than three years) as Municipal Commissioner of Pune compared to earlier civic chiefs. He is considered very close to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. He is known for his physical fitness and has a special fitness trainer.
