Pune: Over one lakh power consumers from Kothrud area under Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company
Limited (MSEDCL) were badly affected due to power failure ranging from two to four hours on Friday night.

The power supply of Kothrud 132 KV substations was suspended on Friday at 8.20 pm due to disruption in the
220/132 kV substation of MSEDCL at Fursungi. The power supply was closed at Kothrud and Warje areas.

“There was a technical fault at Fursungi 220/132 KV substation, which supplies power to 132 KV substation of
Kothrud. Due to this, six substations of Kothrud, Karve Nagar, Deccan, Warje, Sharda Centre, Dahanukar Colony,
Kakade City and others were affected. Over one lakh consumers were affected,” said NK Raut, spokesperson of

“The officers of MSEDCL tried to get alternate electricity supply, which was restored after getting power from NCL substations. After two hours, around 20,000 consumers got 45 MW power at 10.30 pm,” he added.

However, the power supply in the remaining localities was restored after 11 am.

“We were in the middle of my son’s birthday celebration, when lights went out for over half an hour on Friday night,” said Ashwini Joshi, a resident of Karve Nagar.

“All the guests, including the children who had come to the birthday party, had to eat in dark. Although we managed it, there was slight chaos,” she added.

For the resident of Bhelke Nagar, Kothrud and an IT professional, Shruti Godbole, power failure at home after a
long working day was very frustrating. “Power failures in my area are a headache. Even on weekends, on hot summer afternoons, the electricity is cut off, without any prior intimation or a valid reason. Last night, power was back after 12:30 in the midnight. I could not sleep until then,” Godbole said.
