Kidnapped girl rescued within 3 hrs of the crime

PUNE: A two-year-old girl, who was kidnapped from Tilekar Nagar, Kondhwa on Friday evening, was rescued within three hours by officials from the Kondhwa police station and Crime Branch. A 28-year-old man has been arrested for kidnapping the girl. 

The arrested accused has been identified as Umesh Saswe of Tilekar Nagar, Kondhwa Budruk. He works as a casual labourer. The girl’s father works at a shop selling construction materials.

According to police, the incident took place around 7 pm. The girl was playing near her house when the accused lifted her.  When some people confronted him on the road, he confidently told them that she was his daughter.

After her family realised that she was missing, they lodged a complaint with Kondhwa police station. Soon teams from the police station and Crime Branch spread across the area. The CCTV footages showed the accused carrying her on his shoulder. After three hours of a massive search operation, cops identified the accused and reached his house in Tilekarnagar. He had kept the girl in his house. 

Senior Police Inspector Anil Patil, in-charge of Kondhwa police station, said that the investigation is on to ascertain the motive behind the kidnapping. 

Another police officer said, “It seems the accused was drunk when he lifted the girl.”
